Sri Avinashilingam Home Science College for Women was established by the great patriot and educationist Dr. T.S. Avinashilingam. The Government of India declared Sri Avinashilingam Home Science College for Women and Sri Avinashilingam Teachers College for Women as a Deemed University under Section 3 of the UGC Act in June 1988. The University follows the educational ideals of Sri Ramakrishna, Holy Mother Sri Saradamani Devi, Swami Vivekananda and Mahatma Gandhi and upholds a life of purity, discipline, and service. A temple dedicated to Sri Ramakrishna commands the campus. Daily prayer is an integral part of campus life. All the students and staff are expected to participate in the common prayers. The University functions under seven Faculties, namely, Home Science, Science, Humanities, Education, Business Administration, Engineering and Community Education and Entrepreneurship Development. Each faculty functions under the headship of a Dean. The growth of the Institution has been carefully nurtured to its current heights by the world renowned educationist and nutritionist, former Chancellor of the University Dr. Rajammal P. Devadas until she passed away in March 2002. It is now the largest Institution in the country for imparting Home Science Education at all levels.

The University will conduct the Annual Exam in the month of March-April 2019. Students will be able to download the Hall Ticket at the official website. Avinashilingam University has multiple programmes at Undergraduate, Postgraduate and M.Phil and Ph.D. level. The university provides courses like BE, B.E.Lateral, B.Sc., B.A., B.Ed., B.Com.,B.C.A.B.P.Ed. at Undergraduate level and  ME, MBA, M.Ed., MCA at Postgraduate level. The university also offers researched based courses under Ph.D. and M.Phil.

• For B.E the student must have passed class 12th (10+2) with Physics & Mathematics as compulsory subjects with Chemistry or Biotechnology or Biology with min. 45% marks in aggregate.
• For B.E. Lateral Entry, the student must have a diploma approved by AICTE with min. 45% marks
• For M.E., the student must have passed Bachelor’s degree with min. 50% marks.
• All the selections in B.E and B.E. Lateral Entry will be done on the basis of AAEEE score.
• The last date for applying for AAEEE, under B.E. exam is April 21, 2019
• All the selections under M.E. will be done on the merit basis followed by an Entrance exam of GATE/TANCET and personal interview.
• The min. eligibility for all the other bachelor courses is Class 12th (10+2) in the relevant stream.
• The selection of which will be done on the basis of merit in the Class 12th (10+2) marks.
• The min. eligibility for M.B.A is a Bachelor’s degree in any stream.
• The min. eligibility for all the other Master’s courses is a bachelor’s degree in the relevant field.
• The selection criteria for M.B.A is the score obtained by the student in the qualifying exam (XAT/CAT/MAT/TANCET/ATMAT/GMAT) and the marks in the personal interview.
• The selection of all the other Master’s courses is on merit basis.
• The min. eligibility for M.Phil. and Ph.D. is, the students should have a Master’s degree in the relevant discipline with min. 55%.
• The selection in M.Phil and Ph.D. will be merit-based.
